Online Grocery Shopping in India

                                               ONLINE GROCERY STORES

An Online Grocery Store, as the name suggests, is a grocery store that allows you, or anyone for that matter, to purchase groceries and grocery products online. Such stores do charge for   delivery, though, of late, delivery has become free if the person who places the order lives within a mile or so from the store. Such stores work under the fiat that no grocery product will be denied to any customer, thus calling for a refrigerated warehouse to store a wide variety of perishables like meat and fish. Charges definitely apply in this case, and could be steep for exotic foodstuff. Most local online grocers have their own vehicles and drivers and are able to deliver goods quickly. Today, virtual grocery stores are making their presence felt, where an intermediate agency accepts an order, purchases it from an existing grocery under a special agreement and delivers it. Online grocery delivery services wer available in urban centres in the Western World more than a decade ago and has come of age in India. All metros have it as do Tier-II cities; for instance, you will find an online grocery store in Hyderabad or Bangalore or Pune.

Online customers need access to an internet enabled computer or tablet or smartphone and a method of payment. In general, higher levels of education, income, and occupations of the members of the household incline towards favorable perceptions of shopping online on new shopping channels. Grocery stores expand with time and stock a variety of household daily-use goods like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, self-care and grooming products as well as items of clothing.

Online Grocery Stores did not stock breakable items, particularly bottled stuff that could break or leak. Moreover, the trend toward Green Living saw stores minimizing use of Polyethylene terephthalate or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. PET is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in synthetic fibers; beverage, food and other liquid containers. However, end-user agreements have slowed down the movement of PET bottles towards extinction. Despite the availability of PET, hair oil traditionally used in India as a major household grooming product is sold mainly in glass bottles. The fragile nature of glass bottles, however, is bound to see all hair oils and similar fluids sold in plastic bottles.
